Bring your M-Classes and your G-Wagens for an off-road adventure in the Carson National Forest located in the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range of Northern New Mexico.  Co-hosted by outgoing North Texas section president, Andrea Hansen along with the Rocky Mountain Region of the MBCA.  Base camp is the Sun God Lodge, 919 Paseo del Sur, Taos, New Mexico.  www.sungodlodge.com, (800) 821-2437.  Let the Sun God Lodge know that you’re with the Mercedes club.  The rooms will be grouped together.

Friday:  Informal meet and greet at the motel with dinner on your own as people will be arriving at various times of the day and night.  The Pikes Peak section will have its infamous hospitality suite set up.

Saturday:  Travel to Red River.

Off-road 101:  Short trail drive on the FR 485 Trail which will take us literally through river and woods (great photo op).  Approximately 1 hour.

Lunch and shopping in Red River.

Drive up Greenie Peak Trail starting at 8,500 ft. ending at 11,500 ft.  Approximately six miles long / two hours.

Back to base camp.

Dinner (TBA) in Taos.

Pikes Peak hospitality suite at Sun God Lodge -- socializing and off-road lie swapping.

Sunday:  Travel to Red River for a drive up Goose Lake Trail, 8,500 ft. to 11,500 ft.  We’ll pick up box lunches from a local grocery store and have a picnic in the high meadow.  Approximately seven miles long / two hours.  [An alternate trail may be chosen if Goose Lake Trail is inaccessible due to high river.]

Dinner (TBA) .

Monday:  Drive home.

Caution:  As with any off-road excursion, there is a risk of damage to your vehicles.  We’ll teach you the basic Off-Road 101 skills, and we’ve chosen trails that aren’t particularly difficult.

Your vehicle must be in trail worthy condition for this trip:  fluids, brakes, tires, lights, etc.  Please call Steve Fordham at Park Place-Dallas to make an appointment for a vehicle inspection, or bring it to one of our do-it-yourself tech sessions and do the inspection yourself.

You must bring a FRS/GMRS 2-way radio.  The recommended model is the Motorola-Talkabout 25-mile/22-channel radio available in pairs at Best Buy.

The registration fee is $35. per person or $60. per couple to cover hospitality expenses, prizes, etc.  The room and food costs are the responsibility of each participant.  Make checks payable to MBCA, and mail to Andrea Hansen, 1145 Shadywood Lane, DeSoto, Texas 75115-4131.
