F1 weekends are always a rollercoaster, but this past race really put the Mercedes-AMG team through the wringer. Kimi Antonelli drove a fantastic race, staying cool under pressure and bringing his car home in second place.
It should have been a celebration for both drivers. Teammate George Russell was sitting comfortably in third until a power unit failure forced him to pull off the track with just five laps left.
A Messy Start on a Wet Track
The race started with heavy rain, which delayed everything and made the track incredibly slick. When the cars finally got going, the conditions were tricky, with some parts of the track soaked and others starting to dry out.
The team made a smart call right at the beginning. While a few other teams took a risk on dry tires, Mercedes-AMG put both Kimi and George on intermediate tires. It paid off immediately, as both drivers sliced through the spray and grabbed the top two spots early on.
Solid Strategy and Late Heartbreak
When a safety car came out on lap 9, both cars pitted for dry tires as the track warmed up. The team didn't quite have the raw speed to catch Max Verstappen for the win, but Kimi and George managed their tires well and held onto second and third for most of the afternoon.
Then came the tough blow near the end. George’s car lost power suddenly, wiping out what was a guaranteed podium finish for him. Kimi kept his cool through the late drama, holding on to finish second and claim a solid stack of points.
It hurts to lose a double podium so close to the end, but the team still holds a strong lead in the Constructors' Championship as they head straight to Singapore for the next race.
